Beth + Cory: Fontana Lake Boathouse Vacation

A few weekends ago, we booked an amazing little vacay in a boathouse on Fontana Lake in North Carolina.  We packed up the basic essentials (including Louie, of course) and canoed down the lake to our destination (I forgot how much of a workout it is to paddle...hi back and shoulder muscles that i forgot existed)!  It was one of our favorite vacations to date, and the boathouse was literally stocked with all the necessities (it even had solar power, a fancy shower, and wine glasses which was kind of a big deal to me)!  If you ever get the chance to go to Fontana Lake, I highly recommend it.  The water is beautiful, and the Blue Ridge Mountains literally take my breath away every time i lay eyes on them. We are very lucky to live where we do, and be so close to such things.  Fun fact... the scene where Harrison Ford jumped off the dam in the movie The Fugitive was filmed at Fontana Dam! (If you haven't watched it, you should.  It's really great in that 1993 action movie sort of way).  Anyways... here's a little look at our trip below (including a video I put together).

our adorable little boathouse

you can't beat waking up to this view every morning

Cory began each morning by jumping in the lake.  Louie was always so concerned about him every time he would dunk his head underwater.  What a sweet boy!

hi

the grill master

We got a bit of rainy weather, but we didn't mind.  It was beautiful in it's own way.

I wish I could say this was enhanced, but this was literally the color of the water.  I've never seen such beautiful green water before in my life!

He's starting to look older to me, and I literally can't handle it (*begins to sob)

We had a few ducks come and visit our dock from time to time.  They were so cute.

yup... I could get used to this...

I've already decided we need a boathouse of our own on Fontana Lake... but until that happens we will put this boathouse on our list of regular vacation destinations.
